Perhentian Island Malaysia - Getting here

Journey to the islands takes about 30 to 45 minutes by speed boat and one and half hours by slow boat. There are a number of boat operators in Kuala Besut offering boat services to Perhentian Islands. The return boat ticket cost about RM70.00 per person for speed boat and RM40.00 per person for slow boat.

By Air:
From Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) you can get a flight to Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Available domestic flights are provided by Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and AirAsia's low cost flight. If you are really on budget, you can also get the Firefly flight, which is departing at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang. From Kota Bharu airport, you get a taxi direct to Kuala Besut jetty (NOT Tok Bali jetty). Kuala Besut is a small town and it is the nearest gateway to Perhentian Islands from the mainland.

By Train:
If you're from Kuala Lumpur International Aiport, you can get a direct Express Rail Link (ERL) to KL Sentral. KLIA Ekspres is the fastest way of getting to KL Sentral from KLIA; a non-stop journey takes approximately 28 minutes. But if you're from LCCT (Low Cost Carrier Terminal), you can either take a SkyBus to KL Sentral or take a shuttle bus to KLIA's main terminal and than get an ERL to KL Sentral. At KL Sentral you can get a train to Tanah Merah Station in Kelantan. You can check out the train schedules at KTM's website. From Tanah Merah you need to take a bus or taxi towards Kuala Besut.

By Coach:
Get an express coach from Hentian Putra Terminal (opposite PWTC). Some of the express coach companies only stop at Jerteh Bus Terminal, and you need to get taxi to Kuala Besut jetty. Among the express coach companies, Mahligai Express is one the company that travels directly to the Kuala Besut jetty. (+603 4042 8533)

Driving Here via Gua Musang:
Karak Highway> Raub > Gua Musang > Kuala Krai > Jerteh > Kuala Besut

Drive to Karak Highway by using Middle Ring Road (MRR II) or Jalan Kuching (always follow a signboard to Kuantan). After pay your toll bill in Bentong toll plaza (second toll after Gombak toll), then turn left (to Bentong). Drive all the way via Bentong town, Raub town then use shortcut road (to avoid Kuala Lipis town, don't take a junction to the town). It is an ultimate driving experience once you take a smooth cornering in Merapoh and Gua Musang area. From Raub and Gua Musang always follow signboard to Kota Bharu. You will reach Kuala Krai within 6 hours driving and Machang town in 45 minutes time. Machang town is a crucial interchange to Jerteh (nearest town to Kuala Besut), after driving through this town you will meet an interchange to Tanah Merah (interchange to Perak), to Kota Bharu and to Pasir Putih or Kuala Terengganu on your right hand side (take this direction). You must always follow a signage to Jerteh or Pasir Putih or Kuala Terengganu and you will reach Jerteh town within 45 minutes time and then find a signboard to Kuala Besut jetty.

Driving Here via Kuala Terengganu:
Karak Highway > Kuantan > Kuala Terengganu > Jerteh > Kuala Besut

Drive to Karak Highway by using Middle Ring Road (MRR II) or Jalan Kuching (always follow a signboard to Kuantan). After pay your toll bill in Bentong toll plaza (second toll after Gombak toll), then go straight (to Karak toll). Drive all the way via East Coast Highway and take an exit at Gambang toll. Then, drive to Kuala Terengganu (watch up Kuala Terengganu signage). You will drive through a nice area such as Cherating, Kemaman town, Kerteh (oil & gas refinery), Dungun then Kuala Terengganu. Once you reach Kuala Terengganu, take an exit to Kota Bharu (many people miss an exit, don't waste your petrol). Drive to Jerteh town (always beware with your speed since Police Traffic a very strict here) within 1 to 2 hour(s) time and then find a signboard to Kuala Besut jetty.

Driving Here from North:
Gerik Jeli > Tanah Merah > Jerteh > Kuala Besut

Drive via East West Highway and heading to Machang town (interchange) via Gerik, Jeli and Tanah Merah town. Machang town is a crucial interchange to Jerteh (nearest town to Kuala Besut), after driving through thess towns you will meet an interchange to Tanah Merah (interchange to Perak), to Kota Bharu and to Pasir Putih or Kuala Terengganu on your right hand side (take this direction). You must always follow a signage to Jerteh or Pasir Putih or Kuala Terengganu and you will reach Jerteh town within 45 minutes time and then find a signboard to Kuala Besut jetty.
